This Weekend: Plank opens "The Hub", Cereal & Cartoons, and carpooling is cool again

It’s official: Summer is over for the kids.

It’s back to school week here in the East Bay with OUSD and Alameda students back earlier this week on Monday and Berkeley just yesterday.

But it’s not all bad — at least for OUSD students.

Oakland Roots FC is giving OUSD students a free ticket to their “back to school night” game Aug. 30 to any student that attends the first 10 days of school. And to make it sweeter, that night’s game has a drone show.

Oaklandish Presents Fairyland for Adults (21+) — Friday

When: Friday (8/15) 6-10pm
Where: Fairyland, 699 Bellevue Ave

Plank Fest - All Weekend

To celebrate Plank’s 10th anniversary — yes, 10 years — the team at Plank is hosting a weekend of festivities. The highlight: showing off their updated "watch bar” dubbed The Hub which features a 30 foot long media wall — perfect for the Niners, Raiders game Saturday. See details

AfroBeats at The Lake Festival — Saturday

When: Saturday (8/16) 1-8pm
Where: Snow Park, 1999 Harrison St. 

Featuring over a dozen musical performers across 2 stages and 40+ local vendors, the 7th annual AfroBeats festival graces Lake Merritt this Saturday near Snow Park. 16 and under get in free. Tickets from $12  

Cereal Cinema at The New Parkway — Sunday

When: Sunday (8/16) 10:30am-12pm
Where: The New Parkway Theater

It’s every kids dream: eating cereal in a (sorta) movie theater. Every Sunday morning, The New Parkway hosts an all-you-can-eat cereal bar set to the background of classic cartoons. But you gotta show up to see what cartoons they have in the lineup, so no spoilers. See details

Pacific Vibration Reggae Party — Sunday

When: Sunday (8/16) 1-5pm
Where: Prescott Market
