Who even goes to OSL?
This Weekend: A Laurel street fair, Baller's home games, and a blues fest
Oaktown Weekly | August 7, 2024
If you missed Dead & Co last weekend, you’ve got another chance to stumble around the polo field looking for an empty porto — Outside Lands.
OSL returns this weekend with headliners like Doja Cat, Beck, Tyler the Creator, Hozier, Jamie XX and more.
Word of advice: don’t bring a bag. Or if you do, make it clear. Which is very different than the good ol’ days — when you could sneak a 12-pack of Corona and water bottle full of whiskey in your sweatshirt.
But if you’re staying put this weekend and enjoying the echoes from across the bay, we’ve got your weekend plans:
Go get ‘em.
Town Sports

It’s a big weekend for sports in the East Bay.

Oakland Roots FC vs. Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC - Saturday Aug. 9 @ 7pm with tickets starting at $22.

Your East Bay Event Lineup
Each week, we bring you a curated list of events for families, couples, and everyone in-between. Got an event you’d like to promote? Send us a reply.
The 24th Annual Laurel StreetFair World Music Festival — Saturday

When: Saturday (8/9) @ 11am - 7pm
Where: Macarthur Blvd. (Between 35th Ave. & Maybelle Ave.)
The Laurel neighborhood festival is BACK, this time complete with a kid’s carnival, craft beer garden, and dozens of local vendors. Plus, all funds raised go towards the Laurel District community — feels good just to type that. Admission is free →
Big Blast Blues Benefit @ Eli’s — Saturday

When: Saturday (8/9), 6pm - close
Where: Eli’s Mile High Club
Short backstory: Back in November of 2024 Oakland code enforcement officials red-tagged Eli’s patio — which if you’ve been, is the best. Since then the venue has struggled. Now, they’re raising money to keep the doors open until the patio issue is resolved. Help keep the doors open with a blues show this weekend. See details →
Endless Summer Market — Saturday
When: Saturday (8/9) 11am-4pm
Where: 4th St., Berkeley
Fourth Street’s makers row throws a season finale packed with local vendors and live music. Hosted by Creative Communal, which is a great IG follow if you’re a craft market addict like myself. See details →
Salsa Fest at Strawberry Creek Park — Saturday
When: Saturday (8/9) 2-4pm
Where: Strawberry Creek Park, Berkeley
Berkeley’s “Music in the Parks” series is back this Saturday with Salsa Fest — dancing not dip. Music by La Gente SF with food for sale from the Las Cabañas. See details →

Stories from The Bay
The local stories you may have missed this week:
5 Bay Area men charged with stealing over 200 iphones — the plan involved impersonating FBI agents to rob an Apple reshipping company.
Oakland dropped from Trump’s list of “Sanctuary Cities” — neighbors Berkeley and San Fransisco still included in the updated list of 35 released.
New fear unlocked: Oakland man kidnapped and locked in a dog cage until he shared his bank account information. Stay frosty out there.
That’s all folks!
For the record: I will be at OSL Saturday. If you mention Oaktown Weekly to every stranger that would be amazing. If it’s me, I’ll give you a sticker.
See ya out there,
-Kolby
